Isn't this little mini book so cute cute cute!!!??

About the Artist:

A little about me...

I'm a born and raised art lover living in Hawaii.  I feel so lucky because I got the best job in the world.  Raising three awesome boys and one punky little princess (in other words I'm a SAHM).  I got into paper crafting about 7 years ago and just love it, I call it my one selfish obsession.  I started off with layouts, got really into cards, but always had a passion for altered arts and making gifts and that's why my Bind-it-All is always sitting on my craft desk.

Please check my blog out at http://naniwale.blogspot.com/.

Want your work featured on the Zutter blog? Just share your projects on our Facebook Page we just MIGHT be contacting you sometime soon :)

A Mixed Up Summer Journal

It's Amy here today, to share a recent book I made for myself. I have recently become very dependent on Google calendar on my iPhone to organize myself and my family, but I often need a place to quickly write a note, stick a business card or brochure, sketch out an inspirational idea, or tuck tickets from a movie or event. I was sort of needing a Smash book, but something more along the lines of a smash book meets journal, meets spiral notebook. I decided the only way to have this strange book, to my own to suit my needs and style, was to craft one myself.

To embellish the inside covers, I simply took two pieces of super cheap stationery, ($1.25 for 150 sheets), cut them to fit the inside of the book covers,  and distressed them with the distrezz-it-all. Then I decoupaged them to the book, and gave the white area of the paper a coat of gesso, before misting them with black mist, and some drips from the cap.

I started with an old library book discard for my book's cover. The covers of this book were sturdy, but very vintage, and it was easy to tear the binding apart, and use just the outside covers. I decided I would have pages of differing sizes and textures inside, so I punched the holes with my bind-it-all on the top and bottom only. In retrospect, I would have punched all along the side, to simplify the process....but I do like the look of the separate sets of o wires.

I used my bind-it-all to punch and bind all kinds of interesting and quirky objects, like this 45 record I cut in half (the other half is on the book cover). The bind-it-all is amazing, and can just bite into nearly anything! I covered the cut ends in washi tape, and it kept the edges from potentially chipping and splintering during the punching process.

I wrapped stamp packaging with washi tape (if anything needed edges, it was washi taped!) , and threw those in the mix of pages that also include library card pockets, a restaurant beer coaster, and legal sized envelopes. It always inspires me to have a mix of ideas, even in something somewhat utilitarian. Since this book will accompany me pretty much everywhere, I definitely wanted it to be inspiring! (Even if it's a little quirky and strange at the same time).

Another soft cover to a book was a fun addition, but it felt a little thin, so I added washi (again) to the edges.

I had an old spiral notebook with some blank pages left, so I tore them out, and bound them, as well. Zutter chipboard helped me out with some stability, so I put gesso on one side of four pieces, and put October Afternoon travel themed papers on the other side. The other blank papers are more of the stationery, and it is simply folded in half and bound. There are plenty for me to use to journal/make notes on.

My summer has been quite mixed-up, and definitely hasn't been what I planned. But now, I have a fun and inspiring journal to tote with me during the last "dog days" before school starts.
I hope maybe you will give creating a "mixed up" book a try.....it's so easy! Just grab your great Zutter tools, some random things you love, and in just a little bit of time, you'll have something special to use for ideas and inspiration, too! Thank you so much for joining me today!

Feeling Beachy?

Hi everyone!  Nancy here today to share with you a fun mixed media wall hanging I made using my Zutter Bind-it-All, o-Wires, Canvas Artboard and lots of fun goodies from ClearSnap.
I love the texture and weight of the canvas art board.  It is the perfect weight for heavier items like these small shells.  I began these canvases by spritizing with a mixture of different colors of Smooch Spritz, allowing the colors to bleed into one another.  I then added a bit of gesso and finally a super cute embossed sun.  Did you know that Clearsnap makes scented embossing powders under the Color Box line?  This yellow smells like lemons.  So super fun on a project.
The Zutter canvas readily accepted the different mediums including inks, gesso, spray ink, stamps and embossing.
And the antique brass o-wires complimented my project perfectly.

I had a great time creating this wall hanging and I know you would have fun playing with the art board as well.

 Hugs.

Nancy

Thank You Gift Bag

Hello all, Michelle here from Michelle's Paper Affair bringing this cute little gift bag.

For this project I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do. I wanted to make something outside the box, something really different using my Bind It All V2 and I hope I had accomplished just that!

On the center of the gift bag I added a flap that would untie and reveal the word Thank You. You can easily add Happy Birthday, persons name or just about anything your hearts desire.

This is the first time I used these pearl sprays......they are so cute.

Here is a close up showcasing the flap and 3 D embellishments that I used foam dots on.

Products used :

  • Zutter - Bind It All, O-Wire 1/2" silver
  • May Arts - Ribbon
  • Pink Paislee - Indigo Bleu paper & embellishments
  • Pinking scissors
  • Gift Bag
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you soon ♥

One Cup or Two?

It's Amy here today to share yet another coffee centric set of mini books! I love coffee, but if you've seen my previous posts, you know that's no secret. This time (and I think this is the last of my coffee centric ideas) these mini's were created around the coffee cup album concept by Wilna Furstenberg. I'd had her instructions on my computer's desktop for way over a year. It was so cute, but I was just too daunted by the taping, gluing, and detailed binding of the album. Enter the Bind-It-All, and my fears disappeared! I basically followed all of the instructions, but it was made super easy by just binding the book with 3/4 inch brass o wires. Easy peasy, AND, I made it my own special way (without worrying it would fall apart with my sad taping skills!)

Because I had saved two cups in different sizes, from a trip to my favorite local, organic, very hip coffee house (where I actually worked as a barista about 13 years ago, before getting married) with my sweet 12 year old daughter; I created two minis with covers in different styles. I think these would be super to stick into my purse with a pen and accessories, and I could quickly whip them out, and journal about an enjoyable day, and in Smash style, I could add a cocktail sized napkin, receipt, etc.
For this larger sized (12 oz) coffee cup mini (cutting and creating instructions are simple, just remove the bottom of the cup by punching it out, and roll out the tops of the cup. I ironed it after unrolling, to smooth it out, and then finished the edges with washi tape), I went with a more vintage, yet quirky look.

The inside pages are made from scraps I had in my bin, and also coffee bags I had saved, that had fun graphics. All I did was trace the covers of the cup, and cut out. The edges are sewn for stability, and several of them also have washi taped edges.
I thought the cup with the coffee bean farmer on it, and the "made for" speech bubble was so interesting,. and it made for a fun back cover, when set off with a polka dot washi tape. :)

For the smaller of the two cups (this one was for an affogato, where 2 espresso shots were poured over hand dipped, local ice cream...be still my heart) I went with a grungier, artsier look. I misted circles around the cup's tree in the middle, using a handmade stencil, and then placed stamped circles around those. I liked the geometric look it created. The "made with <3 for_______" was on the cup. I thought that was sweet.

I'm pretty excited to take these to this coffee shop, and show them what one (or two!) of their cups can do! I'm also excited that I didn't have to throw this cup into the trash, but instead it will become a little journal that holds notes about my "me time" in the coffee shop!

Thank you SO much for joining me today, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Menu Planner on Display

Hello Zutter Fans.  Cheryl Boglioli, from Cheryl’s Window, here again to share my Kitchen Menu Planner.   When we get really busy around here at my house, we find ourselves eating out much more than we should be, which kills our food budget.  So, my daughter and I have started back at planning our menus again.
I wanted my menu planner to be on display and easily accessible, so I knew Zutter’s Display-It-All would be perfect.

I went searching the web for a great weekly and a great monthly planner.  I found ones that I liked at Picklebums.  Kate has a lot of great ideas on her blog too. I downloaded her free copies and printed them so that they would fit in 4 x 6 Zutter Pre-punched Page Protectors.

I dug out BasicGrey Nook & Pantry paper from my stash, which was the perfect color and theme for my kitchen project.
I even used my BasicGrey Notch & Die set that I haven’t used in a while.  I love using products I already have.
I used the rounded die to create two notches on opposing corners to slide each week’s and each month’s planner card.
I chose to use the Zutter Page Protectors to store the extra planners as well as a place to store the recipes for the week.  By using the page protectors, this also gave me a way to display whichever recipe we are cooking and protect it from any spills or splatters.  For that same reason, I chose to use a Zutter 6x6 Acrylic Cover to project my entire project.  If something does splatter on it, I can easily just wipe it off.   Since it is going to be in my kitchen, I did not add lots of ribbons or embellishments, although it was really hard not to.  I even wanted to decorate the base, but I know how hard it is to keep things clean and wiped down in my kitchen, so I kept it plain…for now.
I used Tim Holt’s Alterations File Tabs On The Edge dies to cut the page edges for my Recipe, Weekly, and Monthly tabbed pages.
The extra planners are stored in Zutter Page Protectors behind the weekly and monthly file tab pages.
See how I can just slide in a new page each month?
And, here is the back page.  I used Zutter Clipboard to provide a good sturdy back to my planner as I hope to use it for a long time.
The Display-It-All was easy to use.  Of course, I could have just rested the wires over the stand, but I decided to actually mount mine onto the display.  After punching the covers and pages, I used the Display-It-All bracket to mark where to punch and then punched holes using my Crop-A-Dile.  Then I inserted the O-wires and used my Bind-It-All to bind my album.  All I had left to do was screw the back cover between the display stand and the display bracket.
The Display-It-All looks good on my kitchen counter and is not so large as to get in the way or clutter my countertop.  Now I need to go plan this month’s menu and this week’s grocery list.  Do you have any recipes you want to share with me?  Please do, if so.
