Put this on your To-Do list!

I teach a monthly "Zutter Club" at The Scrapbooker's Dream in Tewksbury, MA. Every month I teach some kind of mini-book, and then send the students home with a "challenge" kit. The challenge kit has supplies in it, but no directions, so that the students can let their ideas flow... Here's my take on this month's challenge.

The Materials:
3 5"x7" pieces of American Crafts Cardstock
4 5"x7" pieces of My Mind's Eye Patterned Paper
2 5"x7" pieces of Heavy Weight Chipboard
1 Maya Road Sheer Flower
1 yard of May Arts Ribbon
1 4"x6" notebook
I knew that I wanted to have the little notebook slide in and out of the back, so I would need a pocket (I make lots of lists :) and wanted to be able to replace the notepad once it was all used up) so I covered the back chipboard cover with cardstock, and a smaller piece of patterned paper. I attached only the edges of the patterned paper to make a pocket. To be sure that I could slide it in and out easily, I also cut a T pattern on the back of the notepad...

Here's a pic of the notepad in the pocket...

For the final decorated cover, I added the title using my QuicKutz, "To Do" is Katie Mini, and "Today" is Abigail.
The Bind-it-All makes it easy to put together note pads like this. Give it a try!

Owire Poets

Yesterday I taught and scrapped, many miles away.
And alas, last night I fell asleep,
Before naming the winners of the day.

So without further ado, and great fanfare and delight,
You wonderful poets deserve prizes ALRIGHT!!!

Who needs idea books when literary journals might do,
Congrats to all winners, you tickled our funny bones anew!

From the poet laureats of Bind-it-All:

I love my Bind-It-All
to make projects big or small.
I've only one thing I need
(not, Mr. Lorax, a thneed).
I have Owires large as can be,
Small Owires are for me!
I'd love to win this wonderful prize
And have it arrive by mail, before my very eyes.

(editors note: noted for channeling Dr. Seuss)

The holes in this paper
don't detract

but react

as the paper turns her face
to greet cover, meet wire.

Paper becomes page
orbiting not imaginary axis
but spine.

(editors note: for channeling spiritual-zen like qualities of binding!) LOL!

O-wires, O-wires where are you now?
I'm longing for you and must have you some how.

Are you willing to leave your home far away?
And stay by my side in darkness and day?

I can't live without you and I'm lost when you're gone.
It's sadness I feel from dusk until dawn.

Please say you'll come and leave me never.
O-wires, O-wires, I'll love you forever!

(Sniff-sniff, I need a tissue, it's because of you, I'm having this issue!)

(editors note: for the pure longing conveyed!)

Parlez-Vous ......Lollipop Card Box!

Here, in France, we don't have a "CHA" like you guys but ... every year in Paris there's the huge " Salon version scrap" which is our national CHA. (Not exactly because not with all the manufacturers but a rather scrap shop).

I was asked to create a make and take for this french shop "La Compagnie du scrap ". We were just discovering abaout the Bind-it-All in France so it seemed a good idea using a very new product to display its possibilities. It was also a good way for me to use the new french products : Color conspiracy overlays and Kesi'art stamps that created the "French" buzz at that time.

I had two ideas in mind :

Make something cool in little time and make something different than a mini album in which you could give something, sweets for example... The "Lollipop Card Box" was born !

Supplies :
Bind-it-All
1 sheet of Basic Grey
1 sheet of Bazzil
1 sheet of Solid cardstock
Scraps of patterned paper
2 Kesi'art stamps
1 Colors Conspiracy overlay
Love Elsie chipboard
Cricut

General Directions:
1. Cut two squares of 10 cm in the solid cardstock, the patterned paper and the Bazzil.
2. Cut only one square in the overlay.
3. Stick the patterned paper and the Bazzil on the solid cardstock placing the patterned paper on front (that will be your cover) and the Bazzil on back (that will be the inside.).
4. Make a rectangle out of an old sheet of patterned paper and stick it on the cover with the crowns made with the Cricut.
5. Create the box inside the card (8cm). Pre-fold it, use your "Fragile" stamp.
6. Punch and bind your 2 squares with the Bind-it-All and then stick the box inside the card.
7. To finish, stamp the overlay with "Edition limitée", placing the stamp in line with the rectangle of paper on the cover. Then adhere the chipboard.

Run to the nearest sweet store and ... enjoy !

Ode to Owire

Oh Owire!

Without you I could not create,
mini books of all sizes and weight.
In colors that go with any ink,
be it black, red, white, baby blue or baby pink!
And now in the beautiful new shades you will seek,
the colors called silver and brass "antique"!
In sizes small enough for the miniest of minis,
and those for the bigger books that are not so skinny.

Make sure you have plenty of Owire on hand,
for you Bind-it-All fans across this great land!

Leave me a rhyming comment or two,
and you shall win a box of Owire shipped to you!
It might be 3/8", 1" or any size,
Any color too, it will be a surprise.
Just release your inner poet in a scrappy Bind-it-All way,
and you will get a goodie in the mailbox one day.

Three winners will be drawn on a day of fate,
check if you have won on February 28.
footnote: because i am teaching scrappy classes that day very late,
i won't post winners until after 8 (PM, PST)!

CHA Videos from Scrapbook Dimensions

Here's another fun, quickie video from CHA last month from Scrapbook Dimensions. Their video team was visiting a variety of exhibitors at the show and checking out the new products. It was exciting to do this, and have editor-in-chief Cindy Wyckoff behind the camera. I can't help but get a little giddy when I get to interact with people whom I've read or whose work I have followed. What is it about getting scrapbook-star struck?!?!? Anyway, check out all their CHA videos here. They were sure covering a lot of territory and thanks to these videos I get to see a bunch of stuff I missed! Leave Cindy some comments and tell her hiya from the Zutter Zisters!

I don't remember this girl being so tall, but I look like a midget next to her!!

Using Bind-it-All to make scrapbooking layouts

Generaly, we use the Bind-it-All to make an album. Today, I will show you how it can be used to embellish a 12x12 layout.

Here are two projects illustrating this idea:

In the first one I used the Bind-it-All to add a removable part to my layout : the banner headline. Behind it, my other pictures are hidden.
It also gives a touch of originality to the set! There is a rather modern side which harmonizes well with the style of this page.

In the second all is a question of embellishment! The binding gives, with the pencil slid inside, a beautiful relief, and a dynamic aspect. I just binded my dots paper before sticking it on my layout.

Please check out the Gallery for more inspiration! Happy Zuttering!!

And thanks to my best friend who helped me for the English touch !
