BIA minibooks make great gifts!

Greetings from the suburbs of Washington, D.C. -- Lea Sanders here in my first post on the BIA blog. =) Minibooks make a great gift for any occasion--Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwaanza or whatever winter holidays you might observe are no exceptions!

My 5" x 7 1/2" and 4" x 4" projects shown to the right give you an idea of the different size options and variety of Zutter Innovative materials you can choose to add to any project. They are easily adaptable to any theme or holiday you choose. See quick instructions, tool and materials listings below.

Snowmen Mini Books
General Instructions:
I mixed a lot of products together to make these two books. The 4” x 4” book has acrylic covers on the outside and uses three sets of chipboard covers for pages. Each of the chipboard pages is inked in white, covered with patterned paper and embellishments. The 5” x 7.5” book has clipboard wood covers, two sets of acrylic tabs, and 6 inside pages. I kept the pages very simple by covering with patterned paper and adding embellishments only to the acrylic tabs. Holes were punched in each tab and ribbon tied to each. Rivets were added for extra interest to the cover before binding. Ribbon was added at the very end.

Tools:
- Zutter Innovative – Bind-it-All, Pound-it-All, Rivet Setter and Hammer
- Fiskars – Portable Rotary Trimmer, straight and wave blades; No. 8 Razor Edged Softouch Scissors, Threading Water border punch
- Tonic – Scissors
- wire cutter
- foam brush

Materials:
- Zutter Innovative – 1” red o-wires, black metal rivets, 4” x 4” acrylic covers, 5” x7.5” clipboard wood covers, 5” x 7” acrylic tabs, 5” x 7.5” inner pages”
- My Mind’s Eye – patterned paper collection
- Stampin’ Up! – ink, ribbon
- ColorBox – ink
- eFavor – ribbon
- Scrapbook Adhesives – tape runner
- Wright’s – rickrack
- Making Memories – acrylic paints

Stay tuned for additional posts from me and my DT sister, Tish Treadaway, this month!

Thanks,
Lea

Hi, Sheene,
Tell us what you have tried so far for your 3-inch project and several of us on the DT will respond to you with our recommendations.

My recommendation? I would center the pages and then punch. You may end up with some odd punches at both ends but I don't think this is something that can be helped with a smaller project size.

Hi Sheene, a 3" project shouldn't be a problem just make the pages the same size as the covers, not smaller as normally recommended.
Take a piece of scrap paper and cut it to 3 inches. Fold it in half and mark the centre line with your pencil. Place this in front of your covers and pages and line the pencil line with the centre line on the BIA as you punch the holes. You can fit all 6 holes into a 3" book with a teeny bit left on each side, so no problem with edges. Hope that helps!

Yes Sheene! Annette is correct! As long as you make your inner pages 3 inches too there won't bwe any odd punches at the edges!!

thanks! but i found centering my project gives me an extra hole.. what i did was punch it at both ends instead of beginning from the center, i still got four holes (two on each end) its a little tricky to bind, though, but i think practice makes perfect and it doesnt make me love my BIA any less.. :)
