In a bind and need a gift quick? This recipe book takes under 30 minutes to complete and costs less than $5! The inside pages are recipe cards that you can hand write recipes on or leave blank. I used papers and recipe cards from Donna Salazar Designs' Kiss the Cook paper line but Cookbookin' and several other companies offer recipe cards or recipe card style paper plus there are always recipe cards in the $1 Spots at most discount craft stores. You can also just cut lined scrapbook paper to 4x6 and use that as recipe cards.
Supplies:
1" Antique Brass O-Wires - Zutter
Kiss the Cook Paper, Trunk In the Attic - Donna Salazar Designs (Recipe Cards x2 plus 2 other patterned papers)
Buttons, Lace, 4x6 Chipboard - hydrangeahippo.etsy.com
Blue Grosgrain Ribbon - Close To My Heart
Rolling Pin - Darice
Paint - Folk Art by Plaid
Ink - Clearsnap (Smooch Spritz in Caramel Latte by Donna Salazar, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan)
Cut the Recipe Cards plus a lined paper (the one I used is from Donna's Trunk In the Attic paper line by Product Performers) to 6x12 vertically. Stack the 6x12 pieces in order -- lined paper, recipe cards #1, recipe cards #2, lined paper, etc. This way when you cut the cards, they will already be shuffled so that no two cards of the same design are adjacent to one another in the book. Now cut the 6x12 paper and recipe cards down to 4x6.
Cut another patterned paper to four 4x6 pieces. Cover the chipboard covers front and back with this paper. Since Donna Salazar Designs papers are all double sided you can use one sheet of paper to cover both the insides and outsides of the cover and have two different patterns showing.
Insert the covers into the Bind It All on the C Setting and punch 6 binding holes.
Repeat with the inner pages (aka Recipe Cards).
Next lay the front cover on top.
Now lay the back cover on top, with the INSIDE of the back cover facing up. This will ensure that the seam where the O-wires join is in the back of the book (between the last page and back cover) for a professional looking and functional book.
Insert the O-Wire from the Recipe Card side of the stack (bottom). This will ensure that the cards cannot slip out of the seam where the O-Wires join together.
Close the O-Wires in the Bind It All. Flip the back cover of the book back to where it belongs to reveal the finished book.
Tie ribbons and lace in bows on the O-Wires.
Cut out "Favorite" and "Recipes" from the Kiss the Cook Mosaics paper. Ink the edges of these and the book itself with Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan.
Paint the handles of the rolling pin with coordinating paint and allow to dry. Glue to the front of the book.
Add the "Favorite" and "Recipes" cutouts using 3D Foam Adhesive. Add assorted buttons to the cover.
Place the book inside a Clearsnap Color Catcher and spray the front and back with Smooch Spritz in Caramel Latte.
Allow to dry and gift wrap for someone special :)
