Making Leaves with the Scor-It!

How about an EASY embellishment made using scraps????

I use this technique alot in classes, folding the paper by hand to get a crease. That has resulted in ALOT of papercuts! I recently got a Scor-It and it is perfect for making leaves from scrap paper.

The Zutter Zisters Bind-it-All Design Team loves using the Scor-it - it's a great companion to the Zutter tools and can help you work with paper in a whole new way. Try some folding techniques to add creativity to your projects. See Lea Sanders creations on the post below as well as the DT gallery for lots of ideas with the Scor-it!

Here is how you can make hand-made paper leaves!

  • Gather several circle punches , some scrap green paper and cardstock, and a Scor-It.

  • Fold the paper in half, with a nice sharp crease. A Scor-It works really well for doing this! If you're using scraps like I did, create creases in the paper about every 1/2" to 3/4" across the whole width of the paper.

  • Fold each crease and punch until you're left with a swiss cheese piece of paper--you'll get the most bang for your buck this way;)

  • Using a circle punch punch partial circles along the creased edge of the paper. You’ll want to have the paper only about ¼ of the way into the punch.

  • The closer you get to having the paper halfway in the more likely you will have a circle when you unfold the punched paper.

  • For larger leaves use a larger diameter punch and for smaller leaves use a small diameter punch.

  • Here I really used a "Scrap" of paper--you can get the most out of scraps you'd otherwise throw away by punching things out of them.

  • You can also try scalloped, pinked, or other decorative edged circle punches to make more interesting leaves.
  • Try punching colored paper to make flower petals!

  • When you're done, you can use the leaves right away or save them for a future project.

Thank you for this great tip! I love making my own cards, so I'd use the Scor-It to create professional folds. I love the idea of making leaves to embellish scrapbook pages and cards, so the Scor-It would be perfect for that as well.

Great idea to use Scor-It for leaves. I haven't gotten one but I was able to try it out and I found it's so easy to use! Unfortunately, the LSS ran out of stocks and I'll have to wait for new ones to arrive. If I have one, I'd like to to experiment with it on making embossed linear designs on a 12x12 cardstock for a LO. I'm sure it would make my cs look embossed with a design of my own!

I loved your demo with leaf making. I always fumble my way through. I have a scor-pal but always wanted a scor-it It's so easy with the measurements all on top. I make all my own cards and gifts. I recently made gift boxes filled with cards as prizes. Having the scor-it would have made it easier.
Thanks again for the demo.

Those leaves totally rock...

Now if I had a Scor-It of my own, I could tell you what I would do with it, but I don't, so here is hoping I do win one...

Thanks for the chance!

cool! I would create many cards as i just made my first one the other day and used the scor it at a shoppe and loved it. I did a border with it and used sand paper to distress the embossed lines.

I make a greeting card every week to send my DGS. I also would make many, many boxes! I want to use some for divisions in my armoire drawers and shelves and my closet. I also want to have matching or coordinating boxes for my scrapping supples so I can leave them out for easy accessibility but still be pretty. I have an idea to use both a box and my Bind-It-All to attach them together, too! It would be an album with storage for non-scrapped extra photos, and the album can be flipped to the inside or outside. Lots of ideas for these two wonderful products working in concert are hanging around my head! I've got thoughts of organizing during fall cleaning time just itching to be born into real projects!

Thanks for the chance!

I'd love to have a scor-it! I've been checking them out for the last year and none have come to my little area of the world. It would be great for the cards I make for the employees at our local elementary school.

Thanks! I already love & use the bind-it-all.

Great blog post! I love finding new ways to use up scrap paper. I'd love to have a Scor-It for all the cards I make. I'd definitely make more "fancy folds" and gift boxes with one of those.

I have one and LOVE it!! But I hold at least one crop a month and would love to have another so it speeds up the process of card and box making. I really like using mine for crisp cards, boxes, and design lines. My DD loves it for making pretty fans :-) Thanks for the chance!!

I used a Scor-It to make the wedding programs for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding. There is nothing better out there than this product to get nice, crisp, straight folds. Makes whatever the project you're working on look extremely professional!

Oh, I'd love to have a Scor-It! :) I could make so many card folds and dimensional items with it! It would also be great to make accordian fold pages for my BIA books.

I have seen great projects made with the scor-it. Would love to try some. With fall / christmas around the corner I could make lots of leaves and boxes.

Peg said...

I would do so many things. The first is I would make a bunch of leaves from this tutorial so that I could do a layout in honor of fall fast approaching. Then, I would make a ton of cards and use it for all my scoring. Next, I would start work on all my Christmas gifts-cards, bags, tags, pockets and whatever else I could think of. Then, I would start making more cards for b-days, anniversaries, valentines, etc. for next year. I would so put the Scor-It to work. I would first have to win it since I don't even have one, but I would sure put it to use after that!

A scor-it? What would I NOT do with it! OMG! I love making cards and little boxes and envelopes. I HATE using my cutterbee scorer because it always goes back into the handle part. I would LOVE a scor-it board and use it ALL the time! :) Thanks for the opportunity to win one and a great leaf tutorial! I'm always trying to figure out how to make leaves. This is perfect and EASY!

What a great idea for leaves. I'll keep it in mind. I have a Scor-Pal too but in the last project I was doing I just couldn't get the measurements I needed with it. Scor-It to the rescue. It was so easy to set the stop and score flip my paper and score again. Then I had an insert that had to fit correctly and again it was so easy with the Scor-It. Thanks for a great product.

Jingle said...

I love your leaves idea! So quick and easy! I would use this fantastic tool to do embossing on cards and pages as well as for making envelopes for my handmade cards. I'm sure I would find even more to do with it once I had it in my hands!

I would use the scor-it to make packaging and cards. I have used one before and it made folding items so easy. I loved not having to change the blade on my trimmer and I didn't accidentally go through my paper with it. I would love to have my own.
