How did I do it???

I wanted to share with you the inspiration and tutorial on my "BFF Wall Hanging"!!

I took TONS of pictures of my daughters "Sweet 16" Birthday Bash....I even created a mini album for her, commemorating this milestone in her life....however, I was left with EXTRA wallet size photos! and so instead of tossing them....which I knew I could NEVER do....I decided to create a wall hanging that she could enjoy everyday!!

So let's get to it!!!

Supplies I used...

Bind-it-All

4x4, 4x6 Chipboard Cover, 6x6 Canvas Art Board Cover all by Zutter

Maya Road Chipboard Embellies

Glimmer Mist - Olive Vine, Frost, Pinecone

Claudine Hellmuth Studio - Gesso,  Multi Medium

Tim Holtz - Grungeboard - Nature Plain

Wallet Size photos

Paint ALL the chipboard with Gesso.

Let the gesso dry.

Spray the painted surface with Glimmer Mist.

It is IMPORTANT to dry between layers.

Apply as many layers as necessary to achieve your desired look.

Repeat this process on all pieces of Chipboard.

Note: if you find that your chipboard is bowing, spray the back side with a mist of water and dry while gently bending the chipboard.

Note: if you are using more that one layer of chipboard, you will need to punch the pieces separately.

Now compile your Wall hanging.

I used Multi Medium to adhere everything together.

You will have created a wall hanging for everyone to ENJOY!!

Hangin' with the NEW Hang-it-Alls....Win a mini MnT Kit from CHA!

 It's so much fun at CHA to share the new products and conduct make 'n takes for crafters from everywhere!  This year at the Zutter booth we made a different MnT everyday, and by far one of the faves was the 3-piece Clipboard Wood wall decor using the NEW Hang-it-Alls - the cute little hardware that takes your paper crafts to awesome hangable art.  We used selections of paper from Donna Salazar Designs as well as the Rivet Setter, Hammer and Pound-it-All from Zutter...and voila!  Take a look-see at the video....

Just Playing! (with beer mats!!)

I sometimes find that I get so busy creating for everyone else that I forget to find time just to sit and play. It has been a while since I have made a beer mat (that's a coaster for those in the States) book and the other day ... I just got the urge :0) I grabbed some beer mats ... some scrummy Graphic 45 papers ... my favourite Wendy Vecchi and Dark room door stamps and set to work. These little books are cheap to make and a great opportunity to experiment with different techniques ... try out those stamps that you haven't got around to using yet ... you know which ones they are ... the ones that have been tucked away since you bought them :0)

I started mine by covering both sides of 7 beer mats with the papers and then sanding the edges to produce a nice smooth finish. I always paint around the edge with an acrylic dabber at this point before placing the mats in the Bind-it-All. Another great thing about the beer mat book is that they are the perfect size for just one punch on the BIA ... so it just couldn't get any easier. I bind my book at this point too ... and then the playing really starts and I set about decorating the book with all manner of stamping and embellishments.

For this particular book I added lots of ribbons and Tim Holtz doodads stuck to distressed tags down the spine. I used Dark room door stamps for the main images and Wendy Vecchi stamps as accents. These were all made using grungepaper and coloured with aged mahogany and spiced marmalade distress inks.

I added glossy accents to all the words and to pick out things like the bicycle in the image ... just to add a bit more interest and dimension. I can't create anything without a bit of bling and some beads so I added those too. One of Tim's idea-ology frames looks great on any book and pair that with an adage ticket and some crackle accents and you have a really eye catching embellishment.

Have I made it sound simple?

I do hope so ... it was great fun and easy to do ... give it a go ... you know you want to :0)

Boom Boom Boom

Gotta get, get – My son (whose only 6) loves the Black Eyed Peas and Legacy (from So You Think You Can Dance) so when we were trying to decide what to do for his 7th birthday party this month he was set on having a Hip Hop ‘Til You Drop party.

One of my favorite things to make every year is my son’s birthday invitations it’s like being a kid again. I wanted to do iPod’s but my son wanted Boom Boxes so I created these mini boom boxes using my Zutter. The lid is hinged with Owires so I could put all the party information inside.

To make these I used silver metallic cardstock and a basic rectangle box template and created the box, then cut a separate piece for the lid and used my Bind-It-All to attach it. For the handle I used the Rivet Hole Punch, Setter, Hammer and Pound-It-All. I made the hole and inserted the bottom piece of the rivet then thread an uncoiled Owire through the hole then added the top piece of the rivet and set it so the handle would stay in place.

For the goody bags I am making some iPod inspired mini notebooks. I used a silhouette of hip hop/break-dancer and cut them from black cardstock and glued them on to some neon colored paper.

Parade your Creations with Pride - with the Display-It-All!

I love Show-and-Tell sessions in school, don't you? So while creating this mini book of animals, imagining all the fun I'll be having when I start teaching my soon-to-be-born baby the ABCs, I realised what a handy dandy tool the Display-It-All will be.

 

For instance, to get my child all interested in reading, I'll have this displayed prominently, on a shelf, table, by the bed, so that he/she can easily see and reach for it. As an additional touch, I'll definitely be placing tools/objects related to the theme of the book by the stand, so that he/she (yup, we do not know the gender yet, it's going to be a surprise at birth, hence the he/shes =)) can make associations between subject matter and objects.

 

Next, because it's a book attached to the Display-It-All, I can pace the speed of his/her learning, choosing to flip a page after the letter has been taught, or the spelling of the word has been learnt etc. Better still, with blank spaces on the book, my child can also add his/her own drawings thoughts to that particular animal!

 

Now, one of my favorite usages - I get to hang my items off the owires on the book as well! So my child's interest will constantly be piqued, and no one page will ever be the same. So besides K for koala, he/she will also know that K is for Kangaroo, without the santa hat=)

 

So if you fall into one of the following categories:
