August Inspiration Station

Make sure you take a peek at this month's Inspiration Station to see what Zutter fans are creating and sharing......All the way from Norway, Sissel made this beautiful book using paper bags. Although her book is called "Island" it documents her visit to Iceland (which most of us think is supposed to look like ice!!)

Bridgett Owens made this birthday and anniversary book,using plain white cardstock and calendars she printed on her computer! Simple, quick....easy!

Charolette Jones made is note journal, using 3X5 index cards for the inner pages. Think of all the little minis and notebooks you can make as gifts with simple materials like this! This is fun with the fibers on the owire!

Making Leaves with the Scor-It!

How about an EASY embellishment made using scraps????

I use this technique alot in classes, folding the paper by hand to get a crease. That has resulted in ALOT of papercuts! I recently got a Scor-It and it is perfect for making leaves from scrap paper.

The Zutter Zisters Bind-it-All Design Team loves using the Scor-it - it's a great companion to the Zutter tools and can help you work with paper in a whole new way. Try some folding techniques to add creativity to your projects. See Lea Sanders creations on the post below as well as the DT gallery for lots of ideas with the Scor-it!

Here is how you can make hand-made paper leaves!

• Gather several circle punches , some scrap green paper and cardstock, and a Scor-It.
  
  


• Fold the paper in half, with a nice sharp crease. A Scor-It works really well for doing this! If you're using scraps like I did, create creases in the paper about every 1/2" to 3/4" across the whole width of the paper.
  
  
  
  
  


• Fold each crease and punch until you're left with a swiss cheese piece of paper--you'll get the most bang for your buck this way;)
  


• Using a circle punch punch partial circles along the creased edge of the paper. You’ll want to have the paper only about ¼ of the way into the punch.

• The closer you get to having the paper halfway in the more likely you will have a circle when you unfold the punched paper.
  
  
  
• For larger leaves use a larger diameter punch and for smaller leaves use a small diameter punch.


• Here I really used a "Scrap" of paper--you can get the most out of scraps you'd otherwise throw away by punching things out of them.

• You can also try scalloped, pinked, or other decorative edged circle punches to make more interesting leaves.
  
• Try punching colored paper to make flower petals!


• When you're done, you can use the leaves right away or save them for a future project.

Bind-it-All on "Psych" - USA Network

Ok, so I am at work the other day (my "real" work) and my boss comes by my desk and says..."Hey, the Bind-it-All was on Psych last night." I was like "Huh? What's Psych and why was the Bind-it-All on it?" Turns out Psych is a show on USA Network - "a quick-witted comedy/drama starring James Roday as young police consultant Shawn Spencer who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute that Santa Barbara PD detectives think he’s psychic.
Psych also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn's best friend and reluctant sidekick, Gus, and Corbin Bernsen as his disapproving father, Henry, who ironically was the one who honed his son's "observation" skills as a child." (that's a quote from the USA site.)

I found the humor to be enjoyable, if not perfectly dry for my taste! I laughed OUT LOUD at the BIA references!

The references to the BIA are at about 20:00 and 30:30 ("The binding on this thing is impressive!!") LOL! Enjoy!

Santa's Summer Splendor - Bind-it-All Style

Monday Monday Monday. Did you all have a nice weekend? I know lots of kids are heading back to school now, but in my neck of the woods we have a few more weeks to go!


This weekend, one of my favorite local scrapbook stores – The Red Bee in Tustin, CA - had a fun “holiday” event….“Santa’s Summer Splendor!” The store was buzzing with make ‘n takes on Friday night – all of them holiday themed. I manned the Zutter project, of course, making this cute holiday themed 3X4” mini album. It has an acrylic cover, chipboard backcover, and six inner pages of double-sided cardstock. For easy-to-apply embellishments, there were buttons, punched-out snowflakes, flowers, ribbon, tulle, twill (stapled onto to pages) and tiny bling crystals. I especially like the look of the Zutter Antique Brass Owire on this project. It adds to the feel of the holidays. Super easy – and one holiday gift item crossed off the list.


It’s kind of scary to think about the holidays when it’s still 80 degrees out, but trust me, I am feeling anxiety coming on anyway! I know I will be cranking some cute minis like this like an assembly line pretty soon!

Origami, Scor-It and Bind-it-All (oh my!)

Who said origami was kid's stuff? It pairs so well with the Scor-it and the BIA. I used an origami frame project that my daughter used to make and turned it into a grandkids Cover-All project for my parents.

The Scor-It works well in this project to make sharp, consistently spaced creases in the paper. To get the effect shown here, use a paper that is patterned on both sides. Recommend using a thinner patterned paper as thicker weight tends to be super bulky.
