Zutter Joins the Smashbook Craze!

Welcome to Day Three of our Zutter Zummer blog special.  Today's Zutter Zister project comes from Camilla Isaksson of the beautiful country of Sweden! She's hopped on board the "smash book" craze - and brought her Bind-it-All along for the fun!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, I admit, at first, I didn´t really get the smash book thing...What is it? What´s all the fuss about!?
After a little investigating and playing, I totally get it, and I had to make my own.  A smash book is a totally fun, easy way of memory keeping.  It's basically a little scrapbook/journal on-the go.  No rules or "musts" to the content or design, you add your thoughts, ideas, memories, and notes along with simple embellishments and SMASH them all together!
So to make my own version of this fun idea, I used the Zutter Clear Acrylic Folder Tabs (7,5"x5") as a base for my smash. Then I cut out a lots, and lots of patterned paper. I put in homemade envelopes to store some tickets, diecuts and other things. The envelopes I made my self from a toturial that a swedish girl, called Ami made. See her envelope tutorial here (in Swedish...)  Envelope tutorial  Or, you can use the Scor-it-All Envelope Template and cut your own as well.
On the tabs, I put some sentences, like "just smash it" - but you could use other journaling prompts like "always remember", "for today" or whatever motivates you.
Here is the homemade envelope.
It´s easy to punch holes in the Zutter acrylic with the Bind-it-All - the Zutter acrylic is just the right thickness and flexibiity for the tool without damaging either.  You can  also make the holes in the acrylic with Rivet hole punch set and the Pound-it-All. (these tools are on sale, by the way! here)
The acrylic really puts a unique twist on the project!  Hope you make yourself a smashbook!
Zutter Clear Acrylic Covers for a Layout!
I truly have a passon for anything that´s a clear thing!!!
So, when I laid eyes on the Zutter Clear acrylic Covers 9x9". I immediately said to my self, "it´s a clear layout waiting to be made."
It´s a photo of my daughter, I have used it a millon times, because I simply love this photo of her. I´ve used a piece of a book, and that's not my idea to use a book! I´ve spotted lots of creative artists who used it, so I can't take any credit for that genius idea.  The 9X9 Acrylic cover serves as the backdrop to the book.
I was cleaning in the picbox in my computer and found lots and lots of pictures of my daughter, from where she was baby up until now, so I made a 3X4 mini filled with pics of her and hung it on the perfect Hang-it-Alls.
The hole for the Hang-it-All was made using the rivet tools, its so easy to make the holes with it.
Here´s the mini and the 3x4" clear acrylic cover, with cute photos of my daughter bellydancing with my younger sister when we visited Egypt.  :) The front of the mini, I stamped with a variety of stamps with a waterproof stamping pad, and I added some pearls so the heart would be more visible to the eye. I simply love the acrylic covers - they come in a variety of sizes for any project!
A BIA Photobook for a Friend
I have a great scrappin' friend... she lives a couple of miles away from me, but we always meets a few times around the year.  I made this for her, and its empty now, but I´m going to fill it with pics of her and some pics of me, and all the scrapping fun we have made over the years!
Here you can see the inside. This is the clean, neat ½" white owire! Perfect for not so thick projects.  I constructed the album to have this cardstock fold-over cover.  It's simple to make and can be styled to suit any theme.
I´ve stamped a sentiment on the inside about friendship for her....which I really like, its so true!!  Why not make something for your special friend today with your Bind-it-All?
Spring is on the Way (in Sweden, anyway)
The Spring is almost here, well...in northern Sweden its snowing and we have plenty of snow left before we can see the tiny flowers in our pots.
I decided to make a flower arrangement inside instead, so I made a pot out of cardstock and used my Bind It All v2.0 to do it.
For the pot I first made a template out of plain copy paper, so I could see where and how I should place the BIA holes. I made it smaller at the bottom and larger at the top.
The filling to keep the flowers in place is a kind of thread, looks like a birds nest ;) but you can use what ever you have at home, tissue paper would work like a charm!
I filled it with flowers and made leafs in the same scale of colour as the flowers and the pot, it doesn´t always have to be green ;) some pearl floss and "swirls" out of cardstock.
So, enjoy Spring, and if you, like me live in a cold snowy country...make your own spring flowers!
Happy 2010!!
Happy 2010!
I have made a calendar for me to have in my scraproom...the shape of the month-cards I have made myself, but I´ll think you can use your Spellbinders as well, or make your own shapes!
I´m going to show how easy this calendar stand is to make...(Warning for a LOT of pictures).
First you cut out a pice of cardstock thats mesuring aprox. 7 1/4"x6"
Score it in the middle, and punch out holes with your Bind-It-All. Keep the holes centered.
Take a piece of owire, I have used 1 1/4" Antique Brass owire (I just love the color of it!), bind it together in your BIA, but notice that I haven´t punched it shut all the way, leave a little gap maybe about 1/4".Then you take your scoring tool and score the piece of cardstock at (from the outer edge measured, from all sides) first 2/4" and then (from the outer edge again) 1 1/4"
It should looks a bit like this...You can of course do this in various sizes, to fit you own creation!Then you have scored all the lines, the corners looks like this... ...take a pair of scissors and cut it like this.Now I will put on a piece of patterned paper, so the creased line in the middle doesn´t show. The measurement of this is 4 3/4" x 3 1/4" then glue it to the cardstock. Flip it over and cut out the holes using the punches from the BIA as your guide.Gently slide the owire in the holes from underneath. Slide it all the way throught and "lock it" as you see on the picture. The owire doesn't slide from its holes, it stays in place.Now you can glue your box together, and decorate it as you like! I´ve made 7 rings, my thought was to have 6 months in this stand, but my month-cards were over-embellished so they didnt fit...too much 3D. :)
But I can recomend (if you're an embellishing girl-or guy) to make with just 6 rings and just use 3 month, or if you dont use too much embellishments you easily can have 6 months in the stand.
Hope you try this out!
Have a HAPPY BEGINNING OF 2010!!
Oh my....Santa lost his shoe...
Santa has lost his shoe and I found it ;)
My kids are quite big now, so they write Christmas wishlist, after wishlist...Then it occurred to me! I´ll make a minibook for my kids to write their wishes in, and a Santa shoe to put it in. It can be a Christmas keepsake on the table or maybe in the TV-room.
I made a template of the shoe free hand, 2 opposite sides and a long rectangular piece to attach and glued the 2 shoe pieces together. I also cut out 2 pieces of patterned paper to bind with the Owire.I attached a Merry Christmas charm to the owire.The minibook is the same paper as on the shoe, and I used a piece of cardboard. I really like that raw look!Here is a little closeup on the ribbon and the snowflake charm.
I didn´t punch the holes all the way, I only added 3 holes with the Bind-it-all on top, and all 6 holes on the bottom. Perfect if you want hanging charms or something else that takes place and you want people to see. Patterned Paper: Basic grey “Wassail”
Cardstock: Bazzill Red
Ribbon: ribbons from Dollarstore
Embellishments: Kaiser scrapbook -Pearls yellow, Stars –Stämpelgården, Stamps: Inkido, Prima -“Say it in Crystals - Frames”
Other materials: Liquid pearls –silver pearl, thin craft paper- tissue like, Stickles –diamond, Chalk –chestnut roan
Tools: QK –blossom mini alphabet, QK –poinsetta KS-0204, circle punch
HO, HO, HO!
Now we´re just waiting for santa to pick up his shoe ....and the wishlist :D
Happy Binding
Swedish Christmas Star
This is a 3 dimensional Christmas Star.......
My inspiration for this star is Christmas -- I really, really love christmas so much and one day when I sat down in peace and quiet, this idea came to me! So now, I am just longing for Christmas and the opportunity to put it up!
A close up
Tools: Zutter Bind It All
Owire Size & Color: Red Owire ½”
Patterned Paper: Inkido, Scrappers Choice
Cardstock: White Bazzill
Flowers: A handmade poinsettia from a piece of red cardstock
Ribbon: A red ribbon from a candy basket
Embellishments: Reprint gem stones, Prima “Say it in Crystals - Frames”
Other materials: Distress ink pad –Vintage photo, Reprint -gold and white embossing powder, liquid pearls –Silver pearl, stamps –crafty individuals “Vintage Christmas”, Stämpelboden “sleigh and reindeers”, Stickles –Lime green, Chalk –chestnut roan
Other tools: Cuttlebug, Spellbinders die –scalloped ovals, Punch bunch -Fern large, Quickutz Snowflake RS-0386, Cuttlekids alphabet -Tadpole
The tricky thing for this project was to make the star points stand out, so I cut small pieces of clear plastic and used those from the center piece out toward the star points, as spacers. Doing that the star became more 3-D and didn't go flat.
Here you can see the thin clear plastic thats working as spacers, I've marked it with a red circle. I´ve put gluedots on the plastic so it stays in place.
How to:
I used my Word program to make the center of my star (they are found in clipart). I´ve used it as a template and transfered it on the cardstock, I adjusted the size to fit the Bind-It-All and measured up the point so it fits the center.
Make the patterned paper smaller then the cardstock piece, bind the points to the center and attach the patterned paper. Embellish it, , though it is more difficult to embellish it when the two stars are glued together.
I made 2 pieces of the star and made a small “box” approx. 5x5 cm and 4 cm high and glued the 2 stars together with the box so it got 3 dimensional.
Make a hole with your hole punch at the top point and use large owire for that.
Have a happy Bind-a-licious day!!
